ARTIST PROFILE Freddie (Gnarrmaliny) Timms Freddie was born at Police Hole- Bedford Downs Station in 1944. He was a stockman and worked on many stations in the East Kimberley- in particular Bow River Station which was granted by the Government to the Timms Family- with Freddie’s uncle the late Timmy Timms as Chairperson. Freddie painted with the best – Rover Thomas- Jack Britten- Paddy Jampinji- Henry Wambini- Churchill Cann. He has participated in numerous Group and Solo Exhibitions and his paintings have been collected/acquire d by the most notable Galleries and Collectors both in Australia and overseas. He travels frequently to attend Exhibitions within Australia- and lives between Kununurra and Frog Hollow Community to the south- with his wife Beryline Mung. ARTIST PROFILE Nancy Nodea Nancy was born in the bush at Buffalo Hole- Ngarrgooroon (Texas Downs) and grew up and worked on Texas Downs Station- along with many of her family members. The Kitja people who were born and/or worked on Texas Downs are among the most noteworthy of the Ochre Artists- including Queenie McKenzie (dcsd.)- Hector Jandany (dcsd.)- Nancy’s brother Churchill Cann- Katie Cox- Betty Carrington and Patrick Mung Mung. Nancy’s son Mark Nodea and her niece (Churchill’s daughter) Charlene Carrington are two of the most talented ochre artists the Kimberley region has produced. Nancy began painting in 1994 with Madigan Thomas- Mabel Juli and the other female artists who were encouraged by Rover Thomas and Jack Britten. Nancy paints her country Texas Downs of which she has intimate knowledge- and invariably the landscape artwork is accompanied by a significant Traditional Dreamtime story. Jane has painted her version of a 1984 work by her father Rover Thomas titled “Ngarrangkarni” (Dreamtime in Kitja Language) ARTIST PROFILE Jane Yalunga Carrying on the tradition of her famous father – Rover Thomas Jane was born in Wyndham- East Kimberley in 1972 and grew up on Texas Downs Station and at Warmun Community where she now resides with her husband Jimmy (Jimbo) Johnson- also an artist- and their five children. She works as a Teacher’s Aid at the Ngalangangpum Community School at Warmun. She is the daughter of one of Australia’s best known artists- Rover Thomas. Jane commenced painting seriously in the last three years and her content includes her mother’s family country of Ngarrgooroon (Texas Downs Station)- and figurative works of birds and animals as well as superb depictions of religious figurative paintings all complete with accurate information including stories and text from the Bible.
