ARTIST PROFILE Charlene Carrington Charlene is definitely one of the most talented- exciting young artists in Australia. Born in Perth- she grew up at Warmun- Turkey Creek- Western Australia. At 30 years of age- mother of six- she has established herself as a strong woman- an enthusiastic painter with an enquiring mind and the ability to fulfil her highest aspirations. She is ambitious- determined to succeed in the Art World- yet still retaining a deep love of her extended family and always they are uppermost in Charlene’s life. Quick to laugh- generous of herself- a popular loving and much loved lady. ARTIST PROFILE Nancy Nodea Nancy was born in the bush at Buffalo Hole- Ngarrgooroon (Texas Downs) and grew up and worked on Texas Downs Station- along with many of her family members. The Kitja people who were born and/or worked on Texas Downs are among the most noteworthy of the Ochre Artists- including Queenie McKenzie (dcsd.)- Hector Jandany (dcsd.)- Nancy’s brother Churchill Cann- Katie Cox- Betty Carrington and Patrick Mung Mung. Nancy’s son Mark Nodea and her niece (Churchill’s daughter) Charlene Carrington are two of the most talented ochre artists the Kimberley region has produced. Nancy began painting in 1994 with Madigan Thomas- Mabel Juli and the other female artists who were encouraged by Rover Thomas and Jack Britten. Jane has painted her version of a 1984 work by her father Rover Thomas titled “Ngarrangkarni” (Dreamtime in Kitja Language) ARTIST PROFILE Jane Yalunga Carrying on the tradition of her famous father – Rover Thomas Jane was born in Wyndham- East Kimberley in 1972 and grew up on Texas Downs Station and at Warmun Community where she now resides with her husband Jimmy (Jimbo) Johnson- also an artist- and their five children. She works as a Teacher’s Aid at the Ngalangangpum Community School at Warmun. She is the daughter of one of Australia’s best known artists- Rover Thomas.
