Not worth the money
Date of Review: Apr 17, 2008
The Bottom Line: I would not buy this item again. Buy a cheaper item and replace it several times for the same cost.
I needed a new razor so I decided to splurge on the most expensive one I could find. It seemed so great in the video with auto cleaning features and a name that evokes sonic waves pulsing over your face cutting hairs.
The main feature of the razor is self cleaning. The razor cleans itself by running the blades while doused in a vat of lubricating fluid. I think by doing so it shakes free the loose hairs inside the razor and cuts them into fine dust which is washed out by the fluid. The razor will run several times VERY loudly while going through this process.
At first everything worked fine. I could shave for a week before the indicator said to clean the razor. But then soon after, it started requiring cleaning more and more often. Now, after a few months, it requires cleaning almost every other day. You cannot really clean the blades yourself either because they are contained inside a kind of casing. You can shake out some hairs but evidently a lot are still inside.
I've also noticed that the razor doesn't seem to cut as well. This is similar to any other razor and Braun does sell replacement blades. But what's the point of buying a $200+ razor that acts the same as any other razor. My recommendation would be to buy the 3 $70 razors from Norelco or Braun and throw them away or buy new blades.
