Feels like Windows 95
Date of Review: Mar 12, 2008
The Bottom Line: You: Covert operative making calls from embassy closet. Keypad ALWAYS BEEPS. THERE IS NOTHING "Q" OR YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT, except BE ANNOYED (and be captured by KGB). :-)
(please correct me if any of my facts are off; I think I'm accurate, but honestly too frustrated at this phone to read the manual again!)
Ok, simple.
1. It shouldn't be *that* hard to figure out. Too complicated (and I'm pretty dang smart :-) for any phone, even one that has this many features. Let me clarify that; the problem is not that it's super-complicated (although it is), the problem is that it *shouldn't* be super-complicated. It should be intuitive.
Period.
Deciphering the menu hierarchy is a must; there is nothing intuitive about it.
2. Aesthetically disappointing from the screen graphics to the physical layout. What ARE some of those icons, and why do they change so much when you highlight them?! Talk about serious visual clutter.
3. Impossible to keep silent. This is a BIG DEAL. Why make a phone that one can't keep silent (keypad tones)? It boggles the mind.
4. Slow response time for some features. So slow that you wonder if they happened at all. Hey, maybe that's what the keypad noise is for!
5. This classic feature sums it up: When locked, and the Pearl button is inadvertently pressed pop-up dialogue announces:
Handheld is locked
Unlock
Emergency Call
Cancel
"Ok," you think, "I'll scroll and press the "Unlock" option to unlock it." Logical, right? You do this and this appears:
(Locked lock icon) Keypad is locked. Press *(phone icon) to unlock.
Seriously, please this is laughable.
6. You can't transfer folders of photos. One has to transfer each photo individually. That is a waste of time. And memory. Hmm, and maybe, just maybe you'll not clean out all those wonderful pics out of your phone for lack of time...and have to buy more and larger memory cards... (ok, a stretch, but hey I'm on a roll.)
7. Another rant, this time regarding ATT service. The post voicemail greeting info (press blah blah for this, press blah blah for that, press 5 for more options) HAS to be a way to rack up airtime. An extra 2 seconds leaving leaving a message from 20 million people adds up to some serious coin.
